So often the women in biblical times are often relegated to the sidelines, nameless, faceless bystanders who few people know much about. But now, Talk of the Town Travel is putting them front and centre while on the ‘Women of Valor’ tour, a journey that shines the spotlight on Christian, Jewish and Moslem women – both past and present – who’ve contributed to the building of modern Israel.
Departing April 8-17, 2018, this 10-day tour of Israel begins in Tel Aviv with a meet-and-greet with a female Bible teacher of the CJCUC for an overview of Biblical heroines. You’ll then travel to Neot Kedumim to participate in a special ‘Women of the Bible’ tour that traces the footsteps of ancient heroines, and then continue to where Herod built Caesarea, the grandest city other than Jerusalem over the course of 12 years and renamed this city “Caesarea” in honor of the emperor. It was here that a stone inscription was found mentioning Pontius Pilate, the only archeological remains ever found with the name. Visit Mt. Carmel and Muhraka, the site where the Prophet rose to Heaven.
In the Galilee, you’ll learn about first century life in Nazareth village, see the site where Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount at Mt of Beatitudes, and take a boat ride in a wooden ‘Jesus boat’. From there, you’ll make a stop at Magdala, best known for its most famous citizen, Mary Magdalene.
After driving south through the Jordan Valley, and taking a cable car to the top of Masada, a rugged natural fortress built by King Herod, you’ll tour Jerusalem, the City of David, which began more than 3,000 years ago. You’ll walk through the city’s tunnels to the Southwestern Walls to see the spot where Jesus likely preached to his followers, explore the Jewish Quarter and pay respects at the Western Wall.
Sightseeing in Jerusalem continues with a drive to Mount of Olives, which offers unparalleled views of the entire city. There’ll be time for a prayer service at Gethsemene, as well as a walk along the Via Dolorosa, the road that Jesus took on the day of His Crucifixion. Other highlights include Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust, leisure time in the Jewish market of Machene Yehuda, Rachel’s Tomb and the Church of Nativity.
The tour ends with a stop at the Church of the John the Baptized, where you’ll learn about Mary and Elizabeth, as well as a visit with female border police soldiers who’ll tell you about the challenges they face. After communion service at the Garden Tomb, you’ll enjoy a farewell dinner and one last overnight in Jerusalem.
“There’s no question that women played a huge role in laying the foundation of modern Israel, and yet sadly, little has been written about them,” said Dov Saitowitz, travel advisor at Talk of the Town Travel. “This tour is our small contribution in shining a light on some of their accomplishments. They deserve to be recognized, remembered and celebrated.”
The ‘Women of Valor’ tour includes airport meet and greet, airport transfers upon arrival and departure, eight nights’ first class hotel and kibbutz guesthouse accommodations, luxury bus transportation, full breakfast and dinner buffet daily, all entrance fees as per itinerary, a special Shabbat experience, St. Peters lunch along the Sea of Galilee and much more.
